More Information about the Project

RoadAXIS AI involves the development of a software tool based on Artificial Intelligence for the automated production of GIS-based cartography of road axes, following network-oriented criteria and under the data model specification and acquisition standards of the Spanish General Directorate of Roads (DGC).

The system leverages neural networks applied to PNOA imagery (or other aerial photographs) for the automated segmentation and delineation of road markings and intersection types. The result is the delineation and extraction of standardized attributes, fully aligned with General Directorate of Roads specifications, carried out through an autonomous process.

The RoadAXIS project has received a development grant under the IA360 regulatory framework for technological development and innovation through artificial intelligence, managed by the Galician Institute for Economic Promotion (IGAPE) of the Xunta de Galicia.

This grant is co-financed at 25% by the Autonomous Community of Galicia and 75% by the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, funded by the European Union—NextGeneration EU. It is part of Component 16, National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, Reform 1, within the RETECH initiative (Territorial Networks of Technological Specialization), and included in the project “Artificial Intelligence Value Chain.”

This funding supports the digital transition, specifically in the area of “AI Integration in Value Chains (Field of intervention 009bis),” and contributes to milestones 251, “Support for Artificial Intelligence Projects,” and 253, “Completion of Artificial Intelligence Projects.”
