BIOLIN (Circular valorisation of biomass in linear infrastructures through predictive management and AI) aims to transform vegetation management and maintenance models in corridors associated with critical linear infrastructures (road, railway and electrical networks).
As its main objective, the project develops and seeks to validate an integrated management model that enables predictive modelling of biomass evolution, shifting from a reactive approach to a predictive management framework.
Within this context, INSITU focuses on the use of geomatic technologies for the acquisition of multi-source LiDAR and image data, to be processed by application of Artificial Intelligence and advanced Neural Networks. This approach supports the characterisation of vegetation species generating biomass within the areas of influence of linear infrastructures, enabling the generation of associated risk mapping.
The project is being carried out by a consortium including ASEFOR, Excavaciones y Desbroces ROCHA, and Tratamientos Ecológicos del Noroeste, with the participation of the University of Vigo. This combination of specialised stakeholders ensures optimal coverage of the full project scope, from advanced biomass resource modelling and improved management and utilisation, to the generation of new high value-added products.
The BIOLIN project has been awarded funding under the regulatory framework of the Nexos programme, launched by the Galician Innovation Agency of Xunta de Galicia, aimed at fostering cooperation between SMEs and other actors within the regional innovation system. This is achieved through support for collaborative research, development and innovation projects oriented towards the market and aligned with the challenges and priorities identified in the RIS3 Galicia 2021–2027, co-financed by the European Union at 60% under the Galicia FEDER 2021–2027 programme.
